[R] How to calculate values with percent sign imported from Excel?

Dear Conventional Wisdom;

You do realize you only have two distinct values in that factor  
variable, right?

dat <- structure( c(78L, 1L, 1L, 1L, 1L, 1L, 1L, 1L, 1L, 1L)....
