On the contrary, unless special care is taken (rarely happens), HTML
email almost invariably shows code in a proportional font which is
more difficult to read than plain text. Forum web pages which do the
sort of thing you like are clumsy to use IMHO.
If you want a graphic to help explain a question or answer, it's not
very difficult to attach a PNG file. On the odd occasion where some
more elaborate combination of text, graphics and code is required, you
can make it into a PDF file for the convenience of readers (though I
can't think right now of an occasion where that was necessary).
In my experience, the best way to read list mail is a simple text
based email client such as mutt. Point-and-click email clients deal
with threads poorly if at all, and are tedious by comparison.

In my case, it's refreshing to use a list that omits HTML. Long may
it continue.
