See if this gives a clue:

     library(lattice)
     xyplot(Sepal.Length ~ Sepal.Width | Species, type = 'l',
            data = iris)
     ord <- with(iris, order(Sepal.Width))
     iris2 <- iris[ord,]
     xyplot(Sepal.Length ~ Sepal.Width | Species, type = 'l',
            data = iris2)
