[R] Generate a sequence of vectors of different length

One approach is:
sectors <- 2
namSec <- LETTERS[seq_len(sectors)]
nSec <- round(3 / runif(sectors))
mapply(paste, namSec, sapply(nSec, seq_len),
MoreArgs = list(sep = ""))
