[R] Sweave with pdf(): how to remove mention "null device"

Note that the 'problem' is with dev.off(), not pdf(), and the answer 
is ?invisible.

invisible(dev.off())

Searching for the irrelevant 'pdf()' will not have helped, I fear ...
