Your message is severely garbled. However a={1,2,3,4,5 6,7,8,9,10}
is not going to work since {} is incorrect. you need c()
Anyway try this:
a=matrix(1:10,ncol=2)
sum(a[1:3,1])
sum(a[1:3,2])
