Try:

> tmpfun <- function(x) dnorm(x,mean=8,sd=1)*log(dnorm(x,mean=8,sd=1))
> integrate( tmpfun, -Inf, Inf)

Also you may want to look at the log argument to dnorm rather than
taking the log of the function.
