[R] Can't compile R 2.10.1 on AIX

I'm trying to compile R 2.10.1 on AIX, and getting the following errors when it is trying to build the tools package:

Error in read.dcf(file = descfile) : 
  Line starting 'Package: tools ...' is malformed!
Calls: makeLazyLoading ... code2LazyLoadDB -> loadNamespace -> parseNamespaceFile -> read.dcf

make: *** [all] Error 1

My environment and configure settings look like this:

I get the same error on both AIX 5.3 and AIX 6.1. I successfully compiled R 2.8.1 on AIX 5.3 with the same setup. Has anyone else seen this problem on AIX?
