Because only in the old Mayan calendar 2010-11-30 is a monday. It is a
"Dienstag" on my computer, so as an additional Bonus you should consider
language settings.

Divide and conquer is the method to go

weekdays(as.Date('2010-11-30'))
[1] "Zyschtig" 
(special Swiss language setting)

should have helped.
