Two ideas:
---minimize abs(diff(y))
abline(v=x[which.min(abs( diff(y) )) ])
---Or maximize the second derivative
plot(x[-(1:2)],diff(diff(y)), type = "l", ylab = "|y|")
abline(v=x[which.max(diff(diff(y)))])
