[R] Error in object$coefficients : $ operator not defined for this S4 class

I can not reproduce your problem with the latest version of VGAM.

Besides, if you want to get the coef and std. error etc.
you can use
> summary(fit)@coef3
                  Value Std. Error   t value
(Intercept):1 -1.020388 0.03215889 -31.72957
(Intercept):2  1.335657 0.04206706  31.75067
