[R] Referencing variable names rather than column numbers

As baptiste noted, you can do
cor(pollute[ ,c("Pollution","Temp","Industry")]).
But
cor(pollute[,"Pollution":"Industry"])
will not work. For that you can do
cor(pollute[ ,which(names(pollute)=="Pollution"):which(names(pollute)=="Industry")])
