Go for the hardcopy, but you could look at Google Books if you are pressed.
There you will find a good preview of the text. Also look at Alzolla and
Harrell's excellent "An Introduction to S and the Hmisc and Design
Libraries" PDF, which you will find on CRAN under "Contributed
Documentation."
