[R] textured dot strips

Hello,
 
Is there an R package that can generate symmetric textured dot strips such
as those shown in the attached pdf?  This particular variation of strip
charts was first described in 
 
Tukey J and Tukey P (1990).  Strips displaying empirical distributions: I.
Textured dot strips.  Technical Memorandum, Bellcore.
 
which is very hard to find.

Thanks for any hints on an R package, the algorithm or a reference for these
plots.
