[R] Lattice Version of grconvertX or variant on panel.text?

Use grid.text instead:
library(lattice)
library(grid)
xyplot(demand ~ Time, BOD, panel = function(...) {
panel.xyplot(...)
grid.text("Some text", .1, .1) # near lower left
})
