Try this:
library(gplots) #after install.packages("gplots")
m <- matrix(sample(9), 3)
matplot(m, type='l')
par(fig = c(0.5, 1, 0, 0.5), new = T)
textplot(m, show.rownames = F, show.colnames = F, cex = 0.9)
