[R] R crashes during 'eigen'

I don't get a "crash", but it does appear to lock up in Windows.  I gave 
up after about 15 minutes.  I don't have good facilities for 
interrupting a running process, but I can tell it is stuck somewhere in 
Rlapack.dll.
