Tapply uses only one variable but you can use ?by or ?aggregate.
by gives you a list, aggregate a data frame

by(part.of.your.data.frame[,c(1,5,8:11,15)], your.column, function)

aggregate(part.of.your.data.frame[,c(1,5,8:11,15)], 
list(your.columns,  function)
