[R] variation on vioplot?

I don't think this is exactly what you want but try:

par(mfrow=c(1,2))
vioplot(normal, names="Normal", horizontal=TRUE,
ylim=c(-12,12))
vioplot(uniform, names ="Uniform", horizontal=TRUE,
ylim=c(-12,12))
