[R] extracting selected rows, based on a 'list' of values

Try something like:

dat <- data.frame(a=sample(c("a", "b", "d", "k", "z"), 30, replace=TRUE),
                  b=runif(30))
subset(dat, a %in% c("a", "d", "k", "z"))
