Well, I think he probably meant something more like
x <- sort(rnorm(100))
y<-0.5+(0:99)
p <- c(0.01, 0.05, 0.5, 0.95, 0.99)
plot(x,qnorm(y/100), yaxt="n")
axis(2, at=qnorm(p), label=p, las=1)
(From your plot, Andy, I would have inferred that the data
were not normal! However, I like the elegance of your uses
of "plot" and "axis".)
