[R] car package dependencies

I am using Suse 8.1, R 1.7.0 (->grid & lattice included)

can I change the 'car' dependencies/relation to the older R version myself 
without any deep programming knowledge?

Or is there any other packages with a box cox transformation or a similar 
normalization transformation ?
