Awhile back there was a lengthy discussion regarding R GUI's for
teaching, etc. I was wondering if anyone has set up the web page which
was to be dedicated to this issue. Philippe Grosjean had the idea of
creating a R-GUI projects page. Also, is anyone using a "R-GUI" (for
windows) for teaching basic statistics to students doing applied science
degrees? Something based perhaps on Tcl/Tk. This is especially for
students with limited computer experience (apart from using Excel) and
they will use R only for 10 hours as part of a one semester course. What
they need a simple way to enter data (as most have used Excel a
spreadsheet is what I am looking for) and then easily menu driven access
to functions (such as t-tests) and simple graphics (Histograms, line
graphs (xy plots)). Of course, these students would still need to
understand what they are doing and why they used particular methods,
when assessing functions by the menu.
