[R] R on Jaguar?

Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately, doing "fink install readline"
fails also.  from the end part of the output (below), you can see that
it's complaining of some of the same things missing as when i try to run
R.  maybe the compiling options need to be different?

the gifi ftp server is not currently responding; i'll try again later.
is the readlib there compiled for Jaguar?

Here's the end part of the output from fink:
