Associate Professor in Biostatistics or Statistics
The Department of Mathematics is soliciting applications for the tenure
track position of Associate Professorship in BioStatistics or Applied
Statistics, beginning August 2003. Demonstrated prior experience in
multidisciplinary medical or health related funded research is required.

Expected to be an asset in interdisciplinary health research projects in

collaboration with the College of Health and Human SErvices and other
health-related programs. A Ph. D. in Biostatistics or Statistics is
required and demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. The
decision process will start early in 2003. Applicants should submit a
complete resume, a description of research interests, and at least three

The Department of Mathematics, in cooperation with the College of Health

and Human Services, is seeking an Associate Professor of BioStatistics
or Applied Statistics. The successful applicant will be expected to be,
or soon become, a significant asset to interdisciplinary research
projects in multidisciplinary medical and health related areas. Those
with prior experience in such funded research will be given preference.


The Department of Mathematics is in the College of Arts and Science, has

over 45 faculty members and a successful Ph.D. program. There are seven
statisticians and six others working in probability and stochastic
processes. In statistics, much of the research thrust in both
theoretical and applied statistics in recent years has been in
statistical methodology motivated by scientific or practical problems.
The department's statistics group has a strong, accomplished record in
the areas of Bayesian analysis, design of experiments, nonparametric
statistics, reliability theory, and survival analysis. The statistics
group's work in these areas is particularly characterized by its robust,

interdisciplinary applicability.


The College of Health and Human Services includes the departments of
Health Behavior and Administration, Kinesiology, and Social Work, and
the School of Nursing. Master's degrees are offered in four departments.

The College currently has over $2 million in externally funded projects,

including seven federally funded projects. Forty-five percent of
proposals submitted by faculty were funded last year. Faculty members
conduct research in a wide variety of health areas including nutrition,
gerontology, end of life issues, heart disease, quality of life,
self-efficacy, and cancer.
