This is a feature of Emacs Speaks Statistics (ESS), which has a
link in the main R web page:
http://stat.ethz.ch/ESS/

This is a very nice way to run R on Linux. You start Emacs or
Xemacs and then say alt-X R to start R within (X)Emacs - or you
can just say (x)emacs -f R. Then you open a new window with
Emacs or gnuclient (which is the way to do it if you use Xemacs))
and load your R commands, if you have them in a file. Then you
can cut and paste between the two buffers. In R itself you get
command completion with tab. There are other ways to use ESS,
but this is just the way I do it, which you might want to try.

And of course you should be using the most recent version of R!
There are RPMs, so installation is easy.
