[R] upgrading to 1.5.0/uninstalling 1.4.1 on Linux

Is that sufficient if R has been installed as a shared library? It
would appear not in my experience. I tried that suggestion, but R is
still referring to R-1.4.1 when I try to install the
R-1.5.0-recommended tar.gz files.
Does it mean I have to remove the R-1.4.1 before I start?
