[R] identify.hclust problem

I've been using this command to select some subset of the 
dendrogram, and when I left click on the picture I get the
error message

Error in rect.hclust(x, k = k, x = x$x, cluster = cluster[, k - 1], border
= "red") : 
        k must be between 2 and 0

This is happening even when I just cut-and-paste the specimen
example from the documentation page, and appears to happen
in windows and linux, and for various versions of R - 1.4.1, 1.5.0,
but NOT 1.3.0, which functions as intended ... any enlightenment??
