[R] HDF 4

I know there is a library for reading NSCA's HDF 5 formatted files.
Is it also possible to import HDF 4 files? I think there are some big 
differences between HDF 4 and HDF 5 formats.

Is there maybe another R function to import HDF4 files or is that 
functionality build into the HDF5 import function (if at all)?
