[R] Mac OS X installation

Simply get the file 

http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macos/base/rm151_FULL.sit

from CRAN and unpack it on your hard drive somewhere.  This will work on
both OS 9 and OS X.

Exactly, how were you unsuccessful?
