For most of Venables and Ripley (hereafter refered to as MASS), S-Plus vs.
R makes scant difference. The authors have in fact gone to great lengths
to use code that's R/S neutral wherever possible. Details of MASS are
available at:
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/MASS3/
They also kindly provide an online pdf compliment which provides the few
corrections needed for MASS for R users. This document isn't large - total
32 pages, with only 4 of those being MASS-specific (the rest is mostly a more
general guide to R for S-Plus users). Currently, this can be found at:
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/R/VR3R.pdf
As stated earlier, the 4th edition is due this in June this winter (or
summer, for you Northern Hemisphere residents ;).
Cheers
Jason
