Open Office 1.0.1 (OO)

I got a change to have my network setup as; UNIX/Linux and Microsoft
Windows, a hetero-computing network platform.

I found that Open Office 1.0.1 (OO), a UNIX/Linux/Microsoft Windows based
application package, works well under MS Windows ME. OO offers a word
processor, spreadsheet, presentation and a HTML editor. OO does work with MS
Office software package such as; MS Word Documents, MS Excel Spreadsheets
and MS PowerPoint Presentations. OO can be launch via a single icon on the
Task Manager. It software licensing approach is GNU compliant.

I had a chance to install and run Open Office 1.0.1 for UNIX and I found
that the install and execution were comfortable. It's appearance is
identical to it's Microsoft (MS) Windows platform. The is important when you
have to provide help to someone how is running on a different platform other
than UNIX, i.e. MS Windows.

Netscape Browser, the latest version, offers electronic mailing feature as
part of it's Browser application, double check to see if any current version
does offer this feature. You can setup the Browser to get your POP server
message from your e-mail provider, then view/modify/save/achieve your
message. It was Netscape 6.X that allows you to configurate your web server
to function with your POP server.

These recent update of applications truly shows that a hetero-computing
environment can exist. Now, we will see the communicational gap start to be
bridged between various platforms.
