[R] problem with substitute

There is no standard R function `evaluate'.  What is its definition?

I suspect you need

kappa <- function(x)
{
    xx <- deparse(substitute(x), 500)
    a <- table(paste("p", xx, sep=""), paste("k", xx, sep=""))
    ...
}
