[R] Problems with make pdf (R-patched_2002-07-15.tar.gz)

`make dvi' will not re-make the dvi file if you have already made it.

cd doc/manual; make clean; make dvi

and then you will see what you missed.  If you still get a short output,
your problem is with `make dvi'.
