[R] Arrow keys don't work in R

Problem solved, thanks to the many
who offered their help: readline was installed
but readline-devel was not.

(config.log was not that useful as the following 3 lines
configure:8610: checking for rl_callback_read_char in -lreadline
configure:10229: checking for readline/history.h
configure:10229: checking for readline/readline.h

state the checking but not the actual result.
I wonder if there is not an easy way to make sure that
all elements needed by make are present, this would
also help me with my problem with gnome).
