Actually, I think you're wrong ... previous correspondent noted that
these are generated by persp() [and that the scatterplot3d library is also
useful for 3D graphics, particularly since it includes primitives for
plotting points and lines in an existing 3D perspective].
As has probably also been pointed out, xgobi is another tool for
rotation of point clouds.
If anyone is interested, I have a cobbled-together solution for
3D-rotatable graphics; it actually uses a Java applet that someone else
wrote -- my code is R code to translate a surface into Mathematica
graphics format (!), which is what the Java applet reads as its input file
(see http://www.zoo.ufl.edu/bolker/emd-2000/surf2.html for an example).
