The problems are greatest when adding a mail gateway to a newsgroup rather
than the other way around. Many email clients don't preserve the necessary
information for proper threading.  If you look at eg sci.stat.consult,
which is gatewayed, it is less well threaded than the R-help archives. The
other, less relevant, problem is that you can't crosspost with email,
only multipost.
