[R] Reading in data in a triangle

Dear Andy and Stuart,
Once you've read the elements in the lower triangle, it's easy to compute
the order of the matrix. If the order is n, then the number of elements in
the lower triangle is k = n * (n + 1)/2, from which n = (sqrt(1 + 8 * k) -
1)/2.
Thus,
> elements <- scan('c:/temp/LT.txt')
Read 10 items
> n <- (sqrt(1 + 8 * length(elements)) - 1)/2
> U <- matrix(0, n, n)
> U[outer(1:n, 1:n, '<=')] <- elements
> t(U)
