[R] help memory size

I'm Marilena and I have a problem with R (Version of R that I'm using is 1.2.1 and 1.3.1). My file data is so big that the R's memory is inadeguate.When I read "help( memory.size)" I don't obtain adeguate memory size. My teacher adviser myself that I must user modality batch. Help !
