If you are in a situation where you want to buy one good book on R
programming then I think 'Programming with Data' might disappoint. It
does have some strong points particularly on getting data in odd formats
into R/S. I find the text a little abstract and the examples quite S-
Plus specific. I find:
Venables, W.N., Ripley, B.D., S Programming, Springer, New
York, 2000
better and:
Krause A., Olson M., The Basics of S and S-Plus (Second
Edition), Springer, New York, 2000
Is a pretty good basic text.
Just my tuppence.
