In a teaching package that I use locally, you will find global(), which
calculates the legacy Geary and Moran statistics. There are lots of things
you don't need in the package, but you will need to create a neighbourhood
weights matrix: look at example(global) and the data file Weire.R to see
how the sparse weights matrix is handled in this package. The package is
