[R] deriv value revised question

Is the simplest way to get eval( deriv(~F,"x") ) to return ONLY the values
of the
derivative of F evaluated at x by using

attr( eval( deriv( ~F, "x" ) ), "gradient") ?

If so, what is the rationale behind this?
