  Another advantage of ESS (not mentioned in this thread, if I
  read all of it) is function and object names completion (I am
  really addict to the TAB key and tend to use it everywhere
  also when it is not supported). This is a feature
  which can be considered also for Rgui and Unix-readline based
  version of R but it is not there now.
