Then you should better create a new plot for each of your variables with
different units, e.g.:

  x <- rnorm(10)
  y <- rnorm(10, 100, 10)
  z <- rnorm(10, 1000, 3)
  BL <- list(x, y, z) 	# or data.frame
  par(mfrow = c(1, 3))  # 1 row and 3 columns of plots
  lapply(BL, boxplot)
