[R] Strange behaviour in 1.2.1

Always test this sort of thing with R --vanilla. Yes, I think I can
guess. What is in your profiles, .Rprofile or ~/.Rprofile? And has anyone
altered the site profile, R_HOME/etc/Rprofile? To avoid the latter you
may need --no-site-file. See help(Startup).
