[R] Literature needed

Howdy!

Could somebody point me to some good introductory readings about data
mining and descriptive data analysis? I'm a psychologist and a couple
of times I realized that some things just don't appear in
psychological literature, e.g. I've never seen a box plot anywhere in
psych journals so I'm not familiar with them. The R help function is
great when it comes to explaining how to use a feature and I wonder
if that would also be a good place for literature recommendations?

A second thing I need to find some information about is if there is
anything special to correlating measures of change. In my case I have
measured marital satisfaction and quality of communication at two
points in time and want to look at the correlations between
(satisfation t2 - satisfaction t1) and (communication t2 -
communication t1). I always thought there's nothing to it but some
psychologist discuss a lot about correlations between changes and now
I'm afraid I've been missing something important.

Sorry for this a bit lengthy and slightly off topic posting. Any help
appreciated!
