[R] fastest R platform

However, R runs its tests and my scripts between 5% and 20% slower on
Windows NT/2000 than on linux RH6.2, usually nearer 5%.  I've never seen
anything like that using Perl: were you using a local disk configured to
use NTFS with plenty of free space?  (FAT file systems on NT are much
slower.)
