[R] png file

Dear R-help list users,

I have a question about saving a graph as .png file under Unix.  The R
version is 1.2.2.  The message I am getting is

Error in X11(paste("png::", filename, sep = ""), width, height, pointsize,
:  unable to start device PNG
 No png support in this version of R

even though when I do help on png it shows that it should be working ok and
it should be supported.

Any help would be appreciated.
