[R] R 1.1.0 Freeze Ups

I've experienced numerous "freeze ups" with R 1.1.0 in the past few
days. I'm running on a Windows 98 (*not SE*) notebook with 128 MB
RAM. Typically I have no other applications running when I load "R". The
circumstances that frequently leads to the "freeze ups" is when I have done
the following:
>fix(somefunction)
This spawns "Notepad", which brings up "somefunction" for editing. I
occasionally want to minimize "Notepad" while attending to some other
function within "R" (checking a helpfile or the like). When I try to
minimize "Notepad", "Notepad" usually remains on screen and I then have to
kill the task by CTRL-ALT-DELETE (which tells me that Notepad isn't
responding). When I finally succeed in killing Notepad -- not my intent --
I am left with a big "hole" in the screen where the Notepad document had
been, and a totally unresponsive RGUI, which then also has to be killed by
CTRL-ALT-DEL.
I thought this was a Notepad problem, but I tried several other editors
(e.g. Xedit and EditPad) with the same results.
I haven't encountered this problem under Windows NT or Windows 2000, and I
haven't tried to replicate it under Windows 95.
For what it is worth, I have an ATI Rage Pro 2x AGP Video Card. I've tried
turning down hardware acceleration as a debug check. This does not
eliminate the problem.
I did *not* encounter this problem in the previous version. (I've also
tried reinstalling R from several different downloaded versions of the
binaries).
Hope I've provided enough information.
