I also tried to port OSWALD (or at least the pcmid() informative dropout
function) earlier this year. I didn't find as many bugs as Jim reports,
but there was a lot of complicated code designed to make S look more
object-oriented than it really is, much of which needed complete rewriting
to work in R. I had hoped that porting pcmid() would be quicker than
starting from scratch, but this probably wasn't the case.
